Alicia Bárcena, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), highlights the importance of “diversifying” the region towards “more environmentally-sustainable sectors.”
“I think we are at a critical moment in time when we should be moving towards renewable energy and sustainable agriculture,” the biologist stated during a conference in Montevideo.
According to the expert, it is important for “this change in the productive structure” to be accompanied by “more technological innovation,” in order to achieve greater “added value.”
